Index Support and Resistance for Monday, 12/21/2015

Wednesday the US Federal Reserve concluded its meeting by raising the Fed funds rate up to 0.25 points.  The banks have way more than 2 TRILLION dollars parked at the Fed … monies that could be at work out in the US economy but aren’t because interest rates are too low.  The Fed bumped rates , and in the grand scheme of things, that is all that it was and is … a bump; but, it is a bump that could get the Financial Sector growing again, helping the USA economy, and leading the S&P 500 sectors upward again.
Thursday, and Friday’s markets were all about Quadruple witching.  Do not blame the Fed.  The Exchanges have been growing and modifying their systems to accommodate convoluted computer, convoluted high speed, and high frequency computer trading … to the detriment of us all.  The algorithms, reputedly 70% of every day’s trading,  are selling and shorting stocks, stock options, as well as index options and stock and index futures; all with little to no human interaction.  Computer programmers, aided by mathematicians and statistics, “hoping” they not only get the equations and math programed correctly, but in the right sequence and order … ’til Murphy’s Laws exposes the flaws.
Having run through my databases and spreadsheets, from the sea of RED numbers, I expected Thursday’s and Friday’s Quadruple witching drubbing to flip my pivot point charts from “Long Entry” to sell or short … but, while I’m still looking, the “Long Entry” signals are still intact … and being added to.   Surprise, surprise!
I am also on S&P 500 “Golden Cross” watch …. where the up trending 50 day moving average is threatening, even after Thursday and Friday’s drubbing, to cross above the 200 day moving average …see the chart below:
