Thank you crude oil and Tesla.   Today’s  USA Markets’ Index numbers pointed to a negative day if not for crude oil’s help.   Below you will find the near term Daily-Weekly-charts of the percentage change in the S&P 500 vs. the Volatility Index (VIX) for the S&P 500 for today, Thursday,  5/5/2016, as calculated from the percentage changes in Index points from  August 21, 2015 through Wednesday, 5/4/2016’s close.

Chart 1 above is the near term Daily cumulative percentage change, since the August 2015 Markets correction, in the S&P 500 and the VIX.

The S&P 500 companies are in the midst of earnings reporting season.   Volatility has been dropping off since February 16th, 2016 as it would appear the Fed has little, if any, room to raise rates.   That said, Volatility appears to be inching higher since April 20th.
