Index Support and Resistance for Thursday, 6/30/2016

For a second day, US stocks, funds, and indices closed higher Wednesday  as investor and trader concerns continued to abate over Britain’s vote to leave the European Union.
The recovery rally Tuesday and Wednesday erased more than half of the losses U.S. markets suffered in the fallout from last week’s Brexit vote.  European markets also posted solid gains and the British currency, the pound, edged up against the US dollar.
June 30th is the last trading day of the second calendar quarter of 2016 (q2’2016), and also the last trading day of the first half of 2016 (h1’2016).  Funds that are reporting to their share holders about their performance in q2’2016, and thru h1’2016, will be looking to window dressing,  a process whereby they dump losers and buy winners.  The Russell Indices Reconstitution means funds tracking the indices have to dump the “deleted” stocks and buy the “added” stocks.    So, IMHO, Brexit will get shifted to the back burner in favor of these more pressing issues.

Yesterday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA, .DJI) gained +284.96 points, or +1.6 percent, to 17,694.68.  For the week, the DJIA is up +293.93 points, or +1.7 percent.  Year to date, the DJIA is up +269.65 points, or +1.6 percent.
Yesterday, the Standard & Poor’s 500 (SPX, .INX)  gained +34.68 points, or +1.7 percent, to 2,070.77.  For the week, the S&P 500 is up +33.36 points, or +1.6 percent.  Year to date, the S&P 500 is up +26.83 points, or +1.3 percent.
Yesterday, the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQ: .IXIC) gained +87.38 points, or +1.9 percent, to 4,779.25.  For the week, the Nasdaq is up +71.27 points, or +1.5 percent.  Year to date, the Nasdaq is down -228.16 points, or -4.6 percent.
  ————————————————
As I noted above, this is the last trading day of q2’2016 and the last trading day of h1’2016 … so any window dressing by funds must be completed by the close of regular hours trading today.
Below you will find the Index Support and Resistance for Thursday, 6/30/2016 as calculated from the changes in Index points through Wednesday, 6/29/2016’s close.
