 By the numbers, Index Support and Resistance for Monday, 7/18/2016 Part 2:  Stocks closed about where they opened on 3rd Friday of the month options expiry as a five day rally struggled in the face of the attack in Nice, France, and the attempted coup in Turkey.   Investors and traders, locking in profits, sold banks, retailers, and other consumer focused stocks.  At Friday’s close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA, .DJI) gained to set a new record , its fifth in five days.  The S&P 500 has also posted its fifth new 52 week high.

Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA, .DJI) gained +10.14 points, or +0.1 percent, to 18,516.55.  For the week, the Dow was up +369.81 points, or +2 percent.  Year to date, the Dow is up +1,091.52 points, or +6.264 percent.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index (SPX, .INX) pulled back -2.01 points, or -0.1 percent, to 2,161.74.  For the week, the S&P 500 was up +31.84 points, or +1.5 percent.  Year to date, the S&P 500 is up +117.80 points, or +5.8 percent.
The Nasdaq Composite (Nasdaq, .IXIC) pulled back -4.47 points, or -0.1 percent, to  5,029.59.  For the week, the Nasdaq was up +72.83 points, or +1.5 percent.  Year to date, the Nasdaq is up +22.18 points, or +0.4 percent.

  1. Per the E-mini futures last night and this morning, the USA market’s stocks and indices look likely to open higher this morning. The Turkey PM, w/hundreds dead, and thousands arrested, indicates the coup is over.
